Make me make a choice. The White House called the purpose of new sanctions against Russia

The United States is trying to achieve a situation in which the Russian Federation would have to make a choice between default and the use of its remaining foreign exchange reserves.

This was stated on April 5 at a regular briefing by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, explaining the purpose of Washington's new sanctions.

The goal is to force them to make a choice, she said, answering a question about whether the goal of the United States at this stage is to achieve a default in Russia.

Russia does not have unlimited resources, especially now, given the crippling sanctions that we have put into effect. And they will have to choose between exhausting the remaining valuable dollar reserves or declaring default, Psaki believes.
